Lesson details

With 'Russia' in the name you would assume this cocktail originated from the land of vodka. But, this cocktail actually originated in Brussels! Concocted in 1949 by a Belgian barman named Gustave Tops, the drink is thought to be called a White Russian simply because vodka is the main ingredient. Although it didn't become well-known until the 1960s, it still took another 40 years for this drink to become a cult classic after playing a starring role in the Coen brothers movie 'The Big Lebowski'.
