Lesson details

An executive chef is the leader of a kitchen. Beyond your culinary abilities, as a head chef you have to ensure you’re looking after the business and your team, too. You have to have clear goals in mind so you can keep your eye on the big picture.

To nail all these new duties and responsibilities, the first thing you have to do is figure out what kind of leadership style works best for you. Are you more of a Gordon Ramsay or a Jamie Oliver?

There isn’t one perfect leadership style – the trick is figuring out what works best for you and your team. To do this, you have to determine what traits you need to exhibit to motivate your staff. Inspire them to put their best foot forward in order to create the best experience for your customers – and keep the business running smoothly.

In this lesson, culinary leadership expert Glenn Flood outlines what makes a successful kitchen leader.
